100 Cloudy Skies, 2023 - Current |
Artist Statement:
One of my favorite things about being alive is watching sunsets. I’ve been taking photos of them since I was a teenager. Clouds become painted by the setting sun creating a once in a lifetime composition. They can be viewed anywhere in the world, and yet are unique from every angle. Recently, I’ve been inspired by artists who have a daily painting practice. I challenged myself to paint one subject every day for 100 days. I decided to use acrylics for their quickness, paper for its accessibility, and clouds for the abundance of references I already had available. Looking back at this body of work shows me the journey I took. I know my medium better, I trust my brush strokes, and I have evidence that I showed up for myself and my practice. Each of these cloudy skies represents a moment in my life that made me stop in my tracks. The candy colors we see in the sky are impossible to capture in paint or even photos. I hope my work reminds you of a time you noticed the clouds were on fire and stopped to watch. |
